Description

The performer explains that the piano used for this demonstration is a copy of a pianoforte by Anton Walter, which was originally made in the 1800’s, and this type of piano was owned by Mozart and Beethoven. One of the features of this piano are the knee pedals used for pedalling. The left knee pedal is a moderator (putting felt between the hammers and strings) and the right knee pedal is a damper mechanism (raises the dampers). He also explains that the frame is all wood giving the piano a smaller sound and the strings are straight strung, which makes the bass sound different from a modern grand piano.
