Pierre Payeur

Pierre Payeur received the B.Sc.A, M.Sc and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical Engineering from Laval University, Québec, Canada, in 1992, 1994 and 1999 respectively. His Ph.D. dissertation, completed at the Computer Vision and Digital Systems Laboratory, is on the use of probabilistic octrees for the 3D modeling of cluttered workspaces and guidance of a telemanipulator among obstacles with collision avoidance. In 1991 and 1992, he worked as a research assistant at the Laboratoire d’Electrotechnique, d’Electricité de Puissance et de Commande Industrielle (LEEPCI) in Laval University on the study and the development of digital controllers. In 1994, he received the prestigious Gordon M. MacNabb Foundation Scholarship. From 1997 to 1998, he has also been a lecturer in industrial process control. In December 1998, he joined the University of Ottawa as an Assistant Professor in the School of Information Technology and Engineering (SITE), where he has been a cofounder and developer of the Vision, Imaging, Video and Autonomous Systems Research Laboratory (VIVA). His current research interests are volumetric 3-D modeling, range data processing, robot guidance, teleoperation and integration of computer vision in autonomous systems. Pierre Payeur is a member of the IEEE, of the IEEE Robotics and Automation Society, of the IEEE Instrumentation and Measurement Society and of the Ordre des Ingénieurs du Québec.
