Isabelle Cossette

Director of the Respiratory Laboratory and Assistant Professor (Music Education, Schulich School of Music, McGill University ) as well as Co-Leader of research Axis II (CIRMMT), Isabelle Cossette studies the respiratory mechanics, biomechanics and electromyography of musical performances for music pedagogy. Her multidisciplinary training (flute performance/ respiratory physiology) and her laboratory (CFI), which consists of the first Canadian SMART optoelectronic plethysmograph (motion capture device) coupled with standard respiratory laboratory equipment allow measurements of respiratory parameters and sound during musical performances in order to develop new pedagogical tools to teach respiratory mechanics and basic physiology.
